Separately and routinely, Aontacht Media and closely aligned republican/anti-imperialist voices refer to An Garda Síochána as the “free state political police,” “Free State police,” or similar, and to the Irish state itself as the Free State—standard dissident-republican terminology that rejects the legitimacy of the 26-county institutions. Practical paths that reduce both antisemitism and bank-targeting extremism

Ireland’s Jewish community is small. Documented rises in incidents, graffiti, and hostile rhetoric since October 2023, combined with political and street discourse that often slides from Israel criticism into broader anti-Jewish tropes, have real effects. At the same time, economic grievances and anti-imperialist currents drive street action that can include occupation tactics and rejectionist language toward state institutions.

Durable responses that protect free speech while limiting harm include:

• Apply existing laws against incitement, threats, and violence evenly. Public identification of open hate speech is speech; private harassment or violence is not.
• Treat banks and Gardaí as functional institutions, not permanent political stages. Legitimate commercial or policing grievances are better handled through politics, regulation, competition, and normal protest than by occupation or routine delegitimisation of the police as “Free State” forces.
• Push back culturally and educationally against conspiracy tropes (Jewish control, dual loyalty, “Zionist = Jew”) without treating all criticism of Israeli policy as antisemitism. Ireland’s own historical record of antisemitism is relevant context.
